About the Symposium

This website is under construction. The next Symposium is being planned for Fall 2022. Updates will be posted here as they are available.

Our Symposium

The Reimagining the Classroom Symposium has been evolving from its first Flexible Learning Summit in 2013 to its first virtual Breaking New Ground webinar in 2021, but our mission remains the same: to support the Strategic 150 goal of promoting transformative learning experiences for our students by exploring the complex relationships between physical classrooms, teaching pedagogies, and emerging technologies.

Our Campus

Over the last few years, the University of Illinois has made great strides toward the development of active learning classrooms on this campus. From the earliest active learning classroom in Huff Hall to the majestic new Campus Instructional Facility with 23 such classrooms, our campus administration, faculty, and staff have worked together to design, build, teach in, and support classrooms that enhance teaching and learning experiences.

Our Classrooms

One only has to glance at campus resources like the CIF website, the Classrooms Standards manual, the IFLEX website, and other newer documents to see the changes in how this campus is designing, building, and talking about active learning classrooms. Our campus now boasts a wide range of classroom styles designed to support the newer teaching and learning strategies that faculty and students bring to the learning environment. Classrooms, study spaces, and flexible configurations that encourage collaborative learning and technology integration.

It’s time to celebrate our progress and look optimistically toward a future as we strive to discern the evolving needs of our faculty, students, and staff.  Dreams that are on the horizon today will soon become the realities of our classrooms tomorrow. Will we be ready?
